Commercial Derivatives Fixed Wing Platform Systems Team – Charter
The charter of the Commercial Derivatives Fixed Wing Platform Systems team is to provide/support overall program execution and platform systems activities for Navy/Air Force/Coast Guard (Domestic/International) and Commercial Derivative Fixed Wing Platforms. Areas of focus include:
Provide systems engineering leadership and technical project management for assigned fixed wing platforms.
Provide platform/aircraft level systems domain knowledge for systems, products and/or subsystem functionality within assigned fixed wing platforms.
Provide engineering support for “end-to-end” program execution/ownership – Requirements Definition, Design/Development, System Test and Customer Support (Internal/External).
Provide engineering leadership/support to successfully manage/perform a System Test Program that truly addresses system integration, verification and validation (IV&V).
Provide engineering leadership/architecture support to PM and BD in various pursuit and bid activities to successfully capture new and follow-on business.
This position is for a Technical Project Manager (TPM) for the Commercial Derivatives Fixed Wing Platform Systems (FWPS) Team within the Military Avionics department of Avionics Engineering at Collins Aerospace. The TPM will be the engineering single point of contact for Program Management and external customers on an executing development program or project/program pursuit. They will be responsible for the technical leadership and project management of the design & development activities, within the guidelines set by the LCVSM/Program Manager and Customer.
Typical responsibilities and desirable characteristics include:
1.Experience leading the technical development of platform systems and/or subsystems elements of an entire Avionics development project. (Capturing system requirements through Validation & Verification)
2.Experience managing a group of systems and/or software engineers within an Avionics development project.
3.Ensuring that all systems activities are completed per the Integrated Project Management Process (IPM) and the Collins Aerospace Technical Consistent Process (TCP).
4.Working with the Program Manager to create and maintain estimates of schedule, budget and staffing while ensuring the project remains on schedule and within budget.
5.Pursuit/bid leader for proposals and/or customer requested budgetary estimates.
6.Knowledge in the areas of Earned Value Management (EVM), Cost Account Management (CAM), Change Management and Risk Management (RM).
7.Ability to report overall engineering performance to plan as appropriate.
8.Ability to analyze data and determine appropriate actions to correct real problems before they impact overall program.
9.Ability to mentor other Platform Engineers (PE).
10.Ability to work with the end user customer in a professional manner and represent Collins Aerospace to the customer in the absence of the LCVSM.
11.A strong communicator with others, both written and verbal.
12.Experience and ability to effectively use DOORS, JAMA, JIRA and ALM tool suite.
13.Experience and ability to effectively use Microsoft Project, Powerpoint and Excel.
14. Experience and abililty to execute a program within a Scaled Agile development environment.
15.Work in a very strong team oriented environment.
16.Demonstrate self starter personality traits as well as the ability to work autonomously.
17.Understanding of basic cockpit instrumentation/procedures and experience with military products/platforms and customers.
This position requires an intimate knowledge of Collins Aerospace Avionics Engineering processes and tools, and the ability to manage projects.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required.
Candidate may be required to travel both domestically and internationally.
Applicant must be capable of obtaining a U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Security Clearance, and U.S. Citizenship is required.
