This position is for a Senior Systems Engineering professional to serve as the subject matter expert for REACh/Materials of Concern for the business unit. This position will report to the Reach Program Manager for Avionics within the Supply Chain Organization and will lead the development of the business unit strategy and execution. The selected candidate will serve as the technical resource to Engineering, Operations, Program Management, Supply Chain, Quality communities for electrical and mechanical component, materials and related process support in the areas of REACh/Materials of Concern.
The Senior Systems Engineer establishes work with Supply Chain and application engineering to ensure alignment on component selection/parts standardization. The Senior Systems Engineer identifies, evaluates, and recommends new components for new product development requirements and for improving existing manufacturing process yields.
The Senior Systems Engineer works closely with the Avionics REACh Program Manager to execute REACh plans and supports coordination with the Collins Aerospace REACh program office.
Lead the establishment of REACh initiatives, sources of supply, and acceptance criteria for new product development.
Mentor Hardware Engineers in the documentation and release of components, processes, technology roadmaps, and design guidelines.
Support Avionics REACh Program in areas of REACh execution including planning, assessment, sunset plans, process & tool improvements to address parts elimination, weight calculations and parts selection.
Drive improvements to process, tools, methods, and systems to improve awareness and automation of REACh activities.
Support BOM analysis to identify SVHCs prior to DP-C.
General technical support including activities associated with Bidding/Negotiating, Data Collection, and Analysis.
Presentation of strategic and/or technical information to senior management and/or internal and external customers in the areas of REACh / Materials of Concern.
Ensure compliance with international trade compliance policies and procedures
Ensures the protection of Collins Aerospace and safeguard of customer and supplier/partner intellectual property
This position may require occasional travel
Responsible for interacting with program management to ensure that scope is managed.
Business or industry related experience more specifically in the Avionics business
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate complex analysis with clarity and precision.
Strong customer and internal stakeholder relationship skills. Ability to work across the organization and various disciplines, including Engineering, Quality and Operations.
Familiarity with Materials of Concern, ECHA, REACh, and SVHCs.
Ability to lead others to develop innovative solutions to problems
Ability to perform under pressure
Results-oriented and motivated to provide solutions with measurable benefit to our customer and business

Self-starter and initiative taker who can think outside the box

Candidates for this role should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) or other related business degree and 7 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience required.
