This position is for a Manager to oversee the activities of DTC engineers who are performing the DTC process. The primary focus of this position will be guide the engineers and work with Collins Avionics design and development program leaders to make sure that recurring cost management on the program is being addressed.
Design to Cost provides project teams with a leadership role for achieving recurring cost requirements through the application of innovative cost reduction strategies. The role allows for a complete Life Cycle approach to cost management from the inception of the system architecture through the design for optimized build and test in the factory.
Design to Cost offers great opportunities for a diverse work environment, playing a critical role in key business pursuits and product development and transition efforts. Performing cost management is a very dynamic role, gaining exposure with all levels of leadership in a wide variety of product types.
On-board, train and conduct performance evaluations of engineers
Manage engineers work load and commitments
Remove road blocks for successful program execution
Support the efforts of the DTC engineers to define affordability goals and the means to achieve those goals during proposal and design execution phases and factory transition
Design requirements capture
Provide strategic input for tools development and roadmaps
Effectively interact and build trust with team members from many different backgrounds, including Program Management, Engineering Management, Operations Management, Operations and Engineering Teams
Streamline and optimize legacy DTC processes for best business unit alignment
Maintain and enhance Excel and web based tools used by DTC
Conduct business unit training using Computer Based Training (CBT) and Instructor Led Training (ILT)
This position requires a STEM Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required. US Citizenship or Permanent Residence is required.
The successful candidate must possess leadership attributes including an ability to communicate with a wide variety of technical and management personnel and coordinate several projects while balancing priorities and schedules. The candidate should also have:
Background in engineering management
Background in product design, development and factory transition
Basic understanding of the bid and proposal process
Detail-oriented with the ability to deliver per an agreed to schedule, while having the ability to adjust to and help problem solve when schedules or situations change
Possess the capability for eliciting and specifying business unit needs
Collaborate with teammates to make optimal decisions
Enjoy learning new technologies
Be self-motivated to understand challenges and contribute in a work environment positively
