The Communications Coordinator works in close collaboration with the Director of Communications to strategically develop Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) written content for various platforms including social media, web, video, and print. Additionally, the role supports the Director of Communications with administrative duties such as responding to records requests, scheduling, data collection, budgeting, and meeting logistics.
Essential Position Responsibilities:
  • Develop an annual editorial calendar and create daily content featuring CRCSD and individual schools to engage external and internal stakeholders
  • Interview staff, families, and students for multi-platform content
  • Social Media
    • Write content and develop creative ideas for all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn)
    • Under the guidance of the director of communications and in collaboration with other communications team members, develop and execute a CRCSD strategic social media plan that reflects brand standards and grows audience engagement
    • Provide monthly review, analysis, and reporting on key performance indicators related to social media platforms
  • Web Content
    • In preparation for a new CRCSD web redesign, work closely with the director of communications and communications team members to devise a new web content strategy aligned with CRCSD brand standards and communications goals
    • Create a content development and maintenance calendar to ensure content is regularly uploaded and revised on the website throughout the year
    • Optimize content according to search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Provide administrative support to the director of communications for the following duties:
    • Respond to and maintain Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) records requests
    • Scheduling
    • Data collection
    • Budget assistance and monitoring
    • Meetings/presentations logistics
  • Provide backup support with media requests if the director of communications is out of the office or immediately unavailable for media response.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
  • Proven work experience as a content specialist
  • Creative minded with an ability to conceive interesting ideas for new content
  • Demonstrate portfolio of written material
  • Demonstrate documented immersion in social media and in-depth knowledge of social media best practices
  • Working knowledge of SEO best practices and digital analytics
  • Basic knowledge of content management systems
  • Excellent researching and interviewing skills
  • Ability to follow strict deadlines and fact-check information
  • Enthusiastic approach to working collaboratively with team members
  • Degree in communications, journalism, English or a similar field
  • Desired, but not required: basic graphic design skills

The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in different areas of the building including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising students during indoor and outdoor activities, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures.

Salary: Salary- $47,000
